Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Route Marshal ("we," "us") collects when you use routemarshal.app and its related pages (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep this short and plain.

Short version: We collect what's needed to plan, save and sync your rides. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't use advertising trackers.

1. Information we collect

Email address — to create your account and send your one-time login codes.
Login codes and session tokens — so you stay logged in. Codes expire after 10 minutes; sessions last up to 90 days of inactivity.
Trips you save — starting point, destination, stops, settings, notes and the planned route.
Receipt photos and odometer readings you add to a ride. Photos can show things like station addresses, dates, times and the last digits of a card, so cover anything you don't want stored.
Feedback you send — your message, a reply email if you give one, the page you were on and basic browser and device information.
Group-ride details — your name, bike range or MPG, starting area, meet-up spots and notes. These are visible to anyone with that group's link.
Location — only if you tap "Use my current location" or similar. It's used to fill in your start point or find nearby places and is only stored if you save it as part of a trip.
Technical information — IP address and basic request details, used briefly to prevent spam and abuse and recorded in our hosting provider's standard logs.
Payment information — when paid features are available, payments are handled by our payment provider (such as Stripe). We never see or store your full card number; we receive things like your email, what you bought and payment status.

2. Information stored on your device

The Service saves some things in your browser's local storage so it works quickly and offline: your login token, free-plan usage counts, recently planned trips, group rides you've joined and similar settings. Clearing your browser's site data removes them. We don't use advertising cookies.

3. How we use information

To run the Service: plan routes, save and sync your rides across devices, and show your group rides.
To log you in and send service emails, such as login codes. We don't send marketing email unless you ask for it.
To apply free-plan limits, trials and paid access.
To answer feedback and support requests, fix problems and improve the Service.
To prevent spam, abuse and fraud, and to meet legal obligations.

4. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share only what's needed with the service providers that run parts of Route Marshal:

Cloudflare — hosting, accounts, saved rides and receipt photo storage.
Resend — sends login-code emails.
Geoapify — address search, routing and nearby places (receives the places and coordinates you search).
OpenStreetMap — map images.
National Weather Service, Open-Meteo and Sunrise-Sunset.org — weather, elevation and daylight for points along your route (they receive coordinates, not your name or email).
Google Fonts — loads the site's typeface (receives your IP address).
Stripe or another payment provider — processes payments, when available.

We may also share information if required by law, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the Service, in which case this policy continues to apply.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your account and saved rides while your account is active. Rides hidden because of free-plan limits are kept, not deleted, so they can come back. Feedback is kept until we've reviewed it. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll delete your account, rides and receipt photos within 30 days, except where we must keep something by law (for example, payment records).

6. Your choices

Delete individual rides and receipt photos in the app at any time.
Email support@routemarshal.app to get a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account.
Clear your browser's site data to remove information stored on your device.
Don't share your location if you'd rather type your start point.

We'll honor these requests no matter where you live.

7. Security

The Service uses HTTPS, access controls and trusted providers to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee it, and you should keep access to your email secure since it's how you log in.

8. Age requirement

Route Marshal is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, let you know on the site or by email.
